To-Do
Please Answer the following Questions: provide a brief rationale for your answer — not just yes/no answers- which classes did you take outside of your chosen discipline?
- how did you select these classes?
- based on interest
- based on requirements for your degree program
- did would you evaluate the “outside classes”?
- a waste of time
- okay
- an enrichment of your education
- if you had a choice: would you take more outside classes?
- how did you select these classes?
- to be a well educated graduate in your respective discipline — what do you consider the most important objectives?
- did CU offer classes for you to meet these objectives?
- have you pursued these objectives outside of classes (in other settings at CU; outside of CU)?
- what do you consider the most important impact of new media and human-centered computing on YOUR education?
- which classes did you take outside of your chosen discipline?
- I have not completely chosen what discipline I will take, but it is between Software Engineering and Networked Systems. So, the classes I have taken outside of either of these two disciplines include Numerical Analysis, Human-Centered Computing Foundations, Mathematical Cryptography, and Matrix Methods
- how did you select these classes? (e.g. based on interest or based on requirements for your degree program)
- I selected each of the mathematics/applied mathematics classes because I wish to minor in APPM. I feel that this will further my ability to get a job in the field of computer science. Taking HCCF was because I wanted to get a feel for what human-centered computing really was and see if I was interested.
- how would you rate the “outside classes”? (e.g. a waste of time or an enrichment of your education)
- The outside classes have definitely been beneficial to my education.
- if you had a choice: would you take more outside classes?
- I will in the future take more outside classes, whether for elective credits, for fun, or for my APPM minor.
- to be a well educated graduate in your respective discipline — what do you consider the most important objectives?
- I believe that obtaining, at the very least, a Bachelor's degree in computer science is necessary. Also, I feel that a master's would help out enormously. Beyond that, I feel that staying on top of assignments, readings, etc. is the most important part in becoming a well educated individual. Plus, going out and doing projects that are not a part of the class studies would broaden my education in the field.
- did CU offer classes for you to meet these objectives?
- Yes. Also, all the classes require my second to last objective, so that helps. My last objective is one in which the individual really must take the initiative and do him/her self.
- have you pursued these objectives outside of classes (in other settings at CU; outside of CU)?
- I have not yet pursued the objective of outside projects, but will in the near future. Also, punctuality is something that I have been working on my entire life.
- hat do you consider the most important impact of new media and human-centered computing on YOUR education?
- I believe that the most important impact of new media and human-centered computing on my education is the new teaching styles being implemented. Now, those teaching classes have a broader range of tools that they can use to instruct. Plus, as a student, I now have more tools that I can take advantage of to learn the material being taught.
