To-Do
Please Answer the following Questions: provide a brief rationale for your answer — not just yes/no answers- which classes did you take outside of your chosen discipline?
- how did you select these classes?
- based on interest
- based on requirements for your degree program
- did would you evaluate the “outside classes”?
- a waste of time
- okay
- an enrichment of your education
- if you had a choice: would you take more outside classes?
- how did you select these classes?
- to be a well educated graduate in your respective discipline — what do you consider the most important objectives?
- did CU offer classes for you to meet these objectives?
- have you pursued these objectives outside of classes (in other settings at CU; outside of CU)?
- what do you consider the most important impact of new media and human-centered computing on YOUR education?
- which classes did you take outside of your chosen discipline?
- outside my majors, I took intro to sociology, history, major world religions, acting, creative writing, japanese through third year first semester, and I'm taking The old west, scientific writing and Japanese lit in translation next semester. I'm planning to take third year second semester Japanese later.
- how did you select these classes? (e.g. based on interest or based on requirements for your degree program)
- intro to sociology, history, the old west, and scientific writing I chose to take because they are core credits. major world religions, acting, creative writing, japanese through third year, Japanese lit in translation I chose to take because I was interested.
- how would you rate the “outside classes”? (e.g. a waste of time or an enrichment of your education)
- The outside courses I take based on interest enrich the educational experience. The ones I take based on I need them for core, are a bit interesting, admittedly, but more a waste of time than anything else.
- if you had a choice: would you take more outside classes?
- If collge did not take as long to complete, I might take more outside courses. It would be cool if I could take courses I'm interested in for core. (When I can, I do,like the religion class. But if I had a choice I would never take scientific writing. It would be nice if creative writing counted for that).
- to be a well educated graduate in your respective discipline — what do you consider the most important objectives?
- The most important thing is to have corses that are relivant to the specific jobs I want to do while having other courses teach something else(either something unrelated or more general). That way one can actually do the job they want to do without being in trouble if that job is unavailable. For instance, in my case I plan to be a video game programmer, but I might be able to do something in translation or working with japanese speakers.
- did CU offer classes for you to meet these objectives?
- CU has provided courses that meet my objectives. I've taken programming couses and while I have not been assigned to create a game so far in CU, I have done a number of assignments that require skills that could also be used to create a game. I have also been taking Japanese. I'm learning japanese because I want to be able to understand anime in the origional language. I'm not taking it for a future job, however, that gives me a backup plan.
- have you pursued these objectives outside of classes (in other settings at CU; outside of CU)?
- No, but I do plan to continue studying japanese outside of class so I can speak it and write it fluently, potentially acting as a backup.
- hat do you consider the most important impact of new media and human-centered computing on YOUR education?
- When making programs, I have to think about what the user sees and how to make the use of the program understandable.
