- 4. Why are you interested in taking this course?
- I am interested in pursuing a career in Computer Science focusing on human computer interaction and the digital and social systems path gives me the courses that will help me develop my specialty in that area of computer science.
- 5. What courses / work activities / background knowledge do you have which might be relevant to this course?
- ATLS 2000, we worked with wikis and class discussions around technology and society. I have also worked with Leysia Palen in her Crisis informatics lab.
- 6. Indicate your own digital literacy / fluency:
6.1. Describe your programming experience (languages, projects) - I have taken a few computer science classes including CSCI 1300, CSCI , and currently taking CSCI 2400. I have learned to program in java and c++ and python and am currently beginning to learn C and Cocoa.
- 6.2. What applications are you familiar with (e.g. Photoshop, Canvas, Dreamweaver,...)?
- Final Cut Express, Aperture, MySQL, SketchUp, and have explored a little of Photoshop CS2
- 7 Give a brief description of the most important book / article which you have read with respect to the topic of the course.
- The most relevant articles I have read with the topics of this course would have been the readings I did in ATLS 2000, but there is not one in particular that stands out in my mind more than the others.
- 8. What do you hope and expect to learn from this course?
- I hope to learn a little more about social systems in computer science and how people interact with the new tools available to them and maybe how to improve those tools.
