Document Q1KyleMadruga
- 1. Your Name
- Kyle Madruga
- 2. Your field of study?
- Computer Science
- 3. In which semester of study are you?
- 5ish
- 4. Why are you interested in taking this course?
- I'm interested in teaching in the computer science field. I've made several attempts at integrating technology in a meaningful way in the classes that I have taught and TA'ed for; a class on human-computer interaction naturally piqued my interest.
- 5. What courses / work activities / background knowledge do you have which might be relevant to this course?
- Last summer I taught an Introduction to Computer Science class for the Multicultural Engineering Program's Summer Bridge. I created a linux live distribution for the class which allowed my students to turn any computer they wished into a standardized work station which contained all the tools and information they needed as well as several programs and scripts I created which would not have otherwise been available.
- 6. Indicate your own digital literacy / fluency:
6.1. Describe your programming experience (languages, projects) - I'm proficient with C++, Java, Bash, and Python. I've had experience with Perl, some Assembly, Visual Basic, and WhiteSpace.
- 6.2. What applications are you familiar with (e.g. Photoshop, Canvas, Dreamweaver,...)?
- I can perform most tasks with Photoshop, Flash, Excel, Word, Dreamweaver. I am familiar with all the programs in the Adobe Master Collection though not particularly skilled with them.
- 7 Give a brief description of the most important book / article which you have read with respect to the topic of the course.
- The Five Orders of Ignorance is likely the most important article that I have read with respect to my thoughts on Computer Science as a whole, I'm not sure which articles that I've read pertain specifically to digital social systems.
- 8. What do you hope and expect to learn from this course?
- I hope to improve my understanding of way people, student in particular, interact with technology. I also hope to really fine tune the system I created for my class so that it is even more effective when I teach next summer.
