Preparing for applying for Graduate program


4. Why are you interested in taking this course?
I work directly with users who vary greatly in their technical background. I'm looking for ideas & methods to help improve system design and user understanding.


5. What courses / work activities / background knowledge do you have which might be relevant to this course?
I currently work at a local biotech company as a data analyst. As such, I spend most of my time helping to arrange, visualize, and understand large datasets related to small compound drug discovery and development.


6. Indicate your own digital literacy / fluency:
6.1. Describe your programming experience (languages, projects)
Largely fluent - current work mostly in Python, SQL, and VB.


6.2. What applications are you familiar with (e.g. Photoshop, Canvas, Dreamweaver,...)?
Worked w/ Creative Suite although not recently. Currently work mostly with tools related to Cheminformatics (ChemOffice, Knime, etc)


7 Give a brief description of the most important book / article which you have read with respect to the topic of the course.
Interaction Design (textbook) - good for covering wide range of topics, but can be verbose at times


8. What do you hope and expect to learn from this course?
Looking to better understand the principles, framewaorks, and methods related to HCI
