5th semester Junior year


4. Why are you interested in taking this course?
I am very interested in different fields where programming could be applicable and useful. Social side of the study feels to me to be very natural for any kinds of studies, because in the end every piece of technology should serve to make society better off.


5. What courses / work activities / background knowledge do you have which might be relevant to this course?
I am double majoring in Economics, and there were couple of classes that were focusing on social sides of economic policies and people's responses to them.


6. Indicate your own digital literacy / fluency:
6.1. Describe your programming experience (languages, projects)
During first 2 years of computer science, only have used C and C++, a little of Java, PERL and Assembly. Haven't performed any significant projects yet.


6.2. What applications are you familiar with (e.g. Photoshop, Canvas, Dreamweaver,...)?
mostly Photoshop but also a little bits of everything else.


7 Give a brief description of the most important book / article which you have read with respect to the topic of the course.
The book called "Winning in a World transformed by Social Technologies" talks about how opinions and ratings that consumers leave on different blogs and websites can affect certain company's public image.


8. What do you hope and expect to learn from this course?
Something different than solid computer science stuff that will help me to better understand what kind of work I could do in the future.
