1: If you have any questions about the wiki, the readings, the assignments, or anything else that seems somewhat related to this class, add it to this page! 2: The wiki-editor has a special button for "Signature" (the button with the "i" on it). I would recommend using that button when adding something to this page. Especially after every contribution that includes "I" or "we". :) #sign("XWiki.HolgerDick") 3: 1.1 Tips & Tricks 4: * [How to secure your page] 5: 1.1 Questions/comments about the wiki 6: * Q: Sometimes, when following some links in the class environment, I end up on pages that don't have the course-navigation elements on the left and a gray background. What are these? #sign("XWiki.HolgerDick") 7: ** A: These pages are in a different "space", that is, a different section of the wiki. Our course is only one space inside the wiki, marked by the blueish background pattern. To get back to the course-space, you can either use the "Quick Links" on the left (-> "Courses"), use the back button of the browser, or use the list of recently visited pages (on the left bar) #sign("XWiki.HolgerDick") 8: * Q: The Community Activity statistics recently posted to the Course Home Page don't seem to be correct. Considering that we're coming up on Assignment 9, I know that I have posted to each assignment multiple times and have posted to the course outside of assignments. What exactly is "measured" by the Community Activity statistics? #sign("XWiki.DaraCunningham") 9: ** A: Well, first let me say that I am pretty sure that everyone has posted to each assignment. The activity statistics is based on all fairly recent (less than a month old) activities in the wiki, unlike the "Top Contributors" widget on the right which is based on only the saves/contributions. The activity level is certainly not an exact representation of the user's works but that's also not what it was made for. Also, in case anyone is concerned about it, it doesn't play any role in the grading. The only wiki-related thing that counts anything towards the grade are the assignments. #sign("XWiki.HolgerDick") 10: 1.1 Questions/comments about the class 11: 12: * Q: Can you tell us more about the Independent Research Project? What are the requirements for this assignment? Does it have to be a group project? 13: ** A: You will get (a lot) more information about the Independent Research Projects in class (10/1), the information is also [in the wiki>Independent+Research+Projects]. For the time being: yes, it has to be a group project (3-5 people). 14: 15: * Q: Also, I've poked around the Wiki and haven't seen anything that looks like a Gradebook. Are grades posted to the Wiki or just assignment comments? 16: ** A: We are still looking for a way to post the grades in such a way that only the graded person can read it. What I can say right now and right here is that all homeworks were really good and no-one should have a reason to be concerned. 17: 18: 19: 1.1 Random Stuff 20: #sign("XWiki.yorki") 21: 22: *Aurora Browser* - thought people might be interested in this browser concept from Mozilla Labs - lots of HCI ideas represented:\\ 23: http://www.vimeo.com/1450211?pg=embed&sec=1450211 24: 25: *Alan Kay* - CU alum and computing luminary talks about learning, eToys/Squeak, and OLPC at TED:\\ 26: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/alan_kay_shares_a_powerful_idea_about_ideas.html 27: 28: *Gap Minder* - perhaps one of the best, and most entertaining, presentations about data visualization ever:\\ 29: http://www.gapminder.org/video/talks/ted-2007---the-seemingly-impossible-is-possible.html
