- Stephen G. Butler
- 2. SketchUp
- SketchUp is still a complicated tool. It requires understanding 3D space, how to model objects in that space and with those tools, and how to maneuver around in a computer based 3D space. Why is it assumed that an average person would understand about extrusions and how to model complicated objects effectively? Although I know that there are tutorials available, the average users will not explore the tool or those tutorials unless there is an appropriate combination of motivation and available time. What does Google expect the average user's motivation will be to use this tool? (Who cares if my house is represented in 3D?) What is the typical time Google expects an average user to take to learn this tool?
- 3. 3D Warehouse
- There are a lot of models available, but it is still very difficult to find one that matches a person's ideals. Since there are different levels of users using the space; novices, intermediate, and expert users, it seems logical that one should easily be able to search for a model based off of these characteristics too. How can a person search for a house without a lot of detail? or one with extensive detail? Although there is a way to search for tagging, under the advanced tab, why isn't a tagging protocol used like GarageBand? How could Google design the 3D warehouse with better visual search tools?
