#info('Nice work. Very concise :) I made some inline comments, take them as suggestion for further improvements rather than critique') 1.1.1.1 Human Computer Interaction The study of human computer interaction with the goal of improving that interaction to make #bubblec('interface', 'really only the interface or the whole application/system? What exactly is an interface? -- Try to avoid phrases or catchwords and instead try to describe concepts (when possible)') more user friendly. #info('when citing wikipedia (or any other URL), you should try to say on what day you accessed the wikipedia or which version of the article you refer to.') http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human-computer_interaction 1.1.1.1 Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) The study of supporting collaborative work through computer technology. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CSCW 1.1.1.1 Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) Grown out of CSCW, this study focuses more on education rather than business. http://www.edb.utexas.edu/csclstudent/dhsiao/theories.html 1.1.1.1 Design of Interactive Systems Designing systems with the intent to make them useful and usable for target users. http://www.interactionarchitect.com/knowledge/article19991111shd.htm 1.1.1.1 Participatory Design Design process focused on user feedback to create a usable product. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Participatory_design 1.1.1.1 User Modeling Research focused on developing a model of the user's goals and plans with particular software. http://www.cis.udel.edu/~carberry/user_modeling.html 1.1.1.1 Educational Gaming (Serious Games) Games that are designed with the intent to educate the user. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Educational_game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serious_game This field is particularly interesting to me because I hope to continue working in the gaming industry when I graduate. Also close to this field, is the study of medical gaming. Games are being created to help combat medical issues. Whether it's rehabilitating cognitive functions or helping sustain good memory through puzzle games. This study has to do with DSS because it is keeping the users as the main focus and tailoring the software to their needs.
