1. Your Name
Maryam Gooyabadi

2. Your field of study?
Computer Science Engineering, Economics

3. In which semester of study are you?
Junior

4. Why are you interested in taking this course?
I used to be in industrial engineering (specificlly human interface design) and it was compelling to me how much designs can make a difference. I would also like to broaden my perspective in the computing field as I am interested in IT and education (e-learning).

5. What courses / work activities / background knowledge do you have which might be relevant to this course?
APS UofToronto: A team of five engineers from various fields came together to design an innovative device to bring actors on stage. The design had to be fail proof (an egg cutter is a good example, it will never cut anyone's hand) and respect all safety regulations and be in the limited budget. The design was extremely important as it had to be used by the actors.

6. Indicate your own digital literacy / fluency:
6.1. Describe your programming experience (languages, projects)
C, C++, Java

6.2. What applications are you familiar with (e.g. Photoshop, Canvas, Dreamweaver,...)?
photoshop

7. Give a brief description of the most important book / article which you have read with respect to the topic of the course.
"The tipping point" by Malcome Gladwell: This book talks about how small things create huge changes. These small "things" were implemented in a creative way which directly affected the root of the problem or epidemic. Many times these creative small adjustments were implemented in the design

8. What do you hope and expect to learn from this course?
I hope to learn how to take what I have at hand (my skills, knowledge and education) and create social change. I'm hoping this class will open my eyes to new possibilities in the computing world which can be used in any sector.
