Document Q1NickHughes

1. Your Name
Nick Hughes

2. Your field of study?
Studio Arts - Painting

3. In which semester of study are you?
My last semester

4. Why are you interested in taking this course?
I am interested in applying the ideas that I learn in this course to my work as an artist.

5. What courses / work activities / background knowledge do you have which might be relevant to this course?
I have taken a lot of computer courses, but most of them relate to digital art. I have taken programming classes in the past, but most recently I have taken a lot of "new media" classes. This includes classes for 3D modeling and animation, photoshop, illustrator, after effects, flash, VDMX Vj software, etc, that I took while also studying drawing and painting in studio classes, taking design and color theory courses, and taking dozens of art history courses.

6. Indicate your own digital literacy / fluency:
6.1. Describe your programming experience (languages, projects)
I have programmed with Java and C+ in the past, and have worked with actionscript in flash.

6.2. What applications are you familiar with (e.g. Photoshop, Canvas, Dreamweaver,...)?
I have mastered Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, After Effects, and VDMX, and have a good understanding of Dreamweaver and a few other applications.

7. Give a brief description of the most important book / article which you have read with respect to the topic of the course.
In an art context, design, creativity and new media mean very different things than they do in a computer science context. Because of that, most of my knowledge relating to these topics I have come into contact with through art journals and books. When I think of design, I think of the Bauhaus and its great impact on modern design, but there is not just one single book that I could mention to answer this question.

8. What do you hope and expect to learn from this course?
I hope to gain a new perspective on the ideas that are presented to me in this course, as well as learn new ways of thinking about technology and how things are constantly changing in our society.
