To-Do
- which was the most interesting idea/concept you learned from the article?
- articulate what you did not understand in the article but it sounded interesting and you would like to know more about it
- compare the ideas/argumentation/functionality for DODEs with the EDC demonstration given in the class meeting on February 11!
- one major objective of the article, the commentaries, and the reply is to understand the best role distribution between humans and computers in joint human-computer systems (or socio-technical environments)! Comment of this issues from your personal experience!
- Most interesting idea/concept
- I find that the most interesting concept is just the whole idea of DODE. This is a great and efficient way for different people with different backgrounds to communicate with each other. The fact is is that designers don't always know whats best and need the input from the stakeholders to really have a good product.
- What you did not understand
- I think I get DODE fairly well, but I don't really understand KBSAs. This may not be as great as DODEs, but I still think that the idea of makeing computers smart enough that people don't even really have to do anything is interesting, though maybe not the best way to go.
- Compare DODE with EDC
- The EDC was all about everyone seeing the same domain and interacting with that domain and each other, just like a DODE. People were able to communicate and coordinate with each other if they wanted to. Whatever they did would effect what happened in that domains environment and you could see the consequences. However, the EDC isn't just for designing. It is also a model that given a few parameters it could make a good guess on what would happen, for example if there was a fire it could figure out where that fire might go.
- Comment on the best role distribution
- Computers should be there as a tool for people, they shouldn't take the job out of our hands. It has been my experience that computers arn't always right, and there are many time I would rather do it myself. Computers can't replace the human mind and getting other peoples input is the best way to go when it comes to designing a product that is going to effect them.
