Is this page feeding the Recent Comments panel? i didn't see Recent Comments in the Panels Admin list even under custom. Do you mind giving some hints how you added this panel to the pages?

Well it should now be on the panels list. I think under navigation (or whatever is the first category). I just finished it today… Oh, and every panel-widget that is active is not listed in the panel list, as those are "available" widgets. If you search for "Recent Comments" you should find it. It's in the panel-space and I think you should have reading access there.
Oh, and I used this page to test the functionality for the widget. I am, however, not importing or including this page directly from the widget.
