- The following statement stood out for me, reminding me of the importance of social factors in designing digital systems: "We found participants were eager to show us how much they knew and sometimes prejudice of peers who did not have the same knowledge base, leading us to suggest that designers could capitalize on participants' desires to be elite when integrating technology into their lives (Siek, 2006)". In addition to the potential increased status, what other social effects do you think the DIMA device might have for your participants? Are some of these effects generalizable to other user groups or unique to the local culture of your target population? I think this is an important question that may have impacts for design and use. It also raises the issue of how a researcher can come to know, methodologically, the target populations culture and behaviors.
