How do you use personal experience with kids in your research and projects?

In the first part of the semester we discussed the idea of how important is personal insight to the problem in solving it. For example, how software developer should be familiar with the needs of potential software users. So in this case, I think that personal experience with kids and their feedback is very important in evaluating any types of research and studies.
