To Do
- please work as a group (3-5 members) and submit one answer as a group (clearly identifying the members of your group)
- Be prepared to give a 5-10 minute presentation about your project in class so the other students and the instructors are aware of your plans
Task
Please post in the Wiki:- the project chosen and your description of it
- initial objectives
- why is the project of interest to you?
- how do you plan to approach the research?
- what do you expect to find out?
- what do you consider the major challenges?
- references identified
- questions you might have
Group response
- 1. Members of the Group
- Chris Baker, Jeff Hoehl, Jane Meyers
- 2. Project Description
- The project chosen and your description of it
- The goal of our project is to determine if we can make a meaningful framework of motivations in group participation and test such a framework against specific examples. This will hopefully lead to knowing when to use varying models of motivation for new group contexts to make them as individually and socially meaningful as possible.
- What are the different participation environments?
- How do people participate?
- What is participation?
- What products are being produced?
- Define the differences between the varying participation paradigms
- Applying trends found in specific realms of participation to other realms to improve collaboration and usefulness
- Understanding participation allows us to remove barriers preventing people from collaborating and increase the efficiency and value for contributing to collaborative environments
- Evaluate different participation environments and contrast their social systems, contribution systems, and reward mechanisms
- Devise a framework to evaluate and understand the differences in environment attributes
- Analyze the framework using focused examples of participation and problem-solving mechanisms
- Research past research and current trends in literature
- Project participation is based on individual to social meaningfulness and awareness of contributions
- Projects can expand or migrate across paradigms and often do as they evolve and grow in community size
- Sites must be used or popular to spawn meaningful contributions
- Different technical platforms have varying intents and uses
- Breadth of scope
- Extrapolating useful information from case studies and specific analysis
- Developing a meaningful and accurate framework
- Ensuring meaningful and progressive analysis
