Initially, I found the social networking sites like facebook and myspace useful and fun. But soon I found myself growing tired of them and I wanted to remove my profiles. But as I turned off my profiles, I still received messages and event invitations from my friends on those sites and I felt out of the loop. Instead of removing my profile completely, I just removed the information from my profile.

I have been curious why people are compelled to update their facebook status or use a twitter account. It seems like these technologies are slowly removing the human component from communication. Like text messaging has replaced calling your friends. I am curious to see if eventually we as a society move to a certain point with social networking sites and then they just become the next fad, like chatrooms are.
