I think Wikis in education will start playing a larger and larger role. They will help transform education from a one way communication of knowledge to a web of knowledge where students can actually participate in teaching. I have been very interested in this type of project ever since I noticed online education was broken. How far a long is this project? Is there a code base or anything?

Wikis can be an online classroom for so many students around the world. Education can become a possibility rather than a privilege. Even in it's form now, wiki helps me find information on almost anything I search for. I do realize it's far from a collaborative classroom but with a proper design I think even the wikis we have at hand can resemble a platform for collaboration. My primary interest for wikis are for an orphanage project I plan to per sue once I graduate. An "education wiki" would be an extremely useful tool. What are some designs you have in mind? How far are you in this project?

I think this project is interesting because with the advent of Wikis and many other social tools, a ton of information about human behavior and interaction becomes readily available for any observer with a connection to the internet. What makes Wikis, Forums, Facebook, MySpace, etc. different from each other? The answer is becoming more and more subtle as they all evolve to gain market space. Perhaps other questions along these lines could be: "How can someone pick the best social tool for their community?" "Do we adapt to what's packaged in a shelf, or do we put the effort and create something tailor made?"
